What a wild way to celebrate a “Throw Back Thursday.” We watched a Bee Gees tribute band called “Stayin’ Alive Canada,” (facebook page) perform at EPCOT in Walt Disney World. They performed some of the Bee Gees’ most famous songs from the Disco era, including songs from the movie “Saturday Night Fever.” It was funny to look around and see that most of the audience were our age!
This summer, Disney is hosting various bands that are performing tributes to musical artists from the ’70’s, called Sounds Like Summer. Starting on June 5, the group “Don’t Look Back” played tributes to the band Boston. Next came “Hotel California,” the tribute band to The Eagles, followed by “Rumours,” the Fleetwood Mac tribute. Then came “Simply Tina,” for Tina Turner. July brings “Stayin’ Alive”, “Bruce in the USA” for Bruce Springsteen, and finishing the summer will be “DSB,” the tribute to Journey. Each group performs 3 times each day for a week with each concert lasting about 30 minutes in the American Gardens Theater. There is no additional charge for these concerts aside from the normal park admission.
No tribute band is as good as the original, but “Stayin’ Alive” came in a close second. Here is the video of the opening song:
What a great way to spend a summer evening.
