EPCOT Flower & Garden 2018

Figment the Dragon

The 25th anniversary of the International Flower & Garden Festival is officially underway in EPCOT.  This 3-month long event runs February 28th to May 28th and showcases everything flora, and even combines it with Disney magic to create some very special displays.  It is not much unlike the Rose Parade in Pasadena, CA, where the floats are made entirely of organic materials; but unlike the Rose Parade, most of these displays are made from living and blooming plants, so they will stay in color all spring long.

While the topiaries are spectacular and most of them depict Disney characters, the grounds around EPCOT are planted in blooming flowers and garden displays.  Even an enclosed garden with butterflies in all stages of growth is available for guests to walk through.

But it’s not just flowers for looking. There are tours that will take you through an English Tea Garden and the “Behind the Seeds” tour where you will explore the greenhouses and experimental farming that is occurring at EPCOT.

Free mini concerts fill the weekend evenings with sounds of famous bands and singers such as Little River Band, Lonestar, Rick Springfield, and The Spinners.

To navigate your way around one of these festivals, be sure to pick up a “passport.”  These mini guides will give you all the information you need to make your way to the things you want to see or do or taste.

Festivals of all types now consume about half the calendar year in EPCOT.  These are a spectacular use of this theme park, offering special events, experiences and opportunities that enhance the park as well as the guests.  One of the enhancements of these festivals is that Disney has added food kiosks around the World Showcase Lagoon.  Most of the countries have one where guests can buy a small sampling of food from that region and get a taste of the flavors and specialties.  A huge advantage of these kitchens is that guests are not committed to a full sized entrée, and can sample food and drink from several different countries.

This post doesn’t even begin to pay respect to all that is available at the International Flower & Garden Festival, as EPCOT itself is a unique experience.  All we can do is touch on a couple of items and hope that you are encouraged to experience an EPCOT festival for yourself.  From here, we will let the photos speak for themselves.
