We felt like we should make a post for this magnificent theater, especially since it is now a Disney property.  The El Capitan Theater was built in 1926 during the “Golden Age of Hollywood,” not as a movie theater, but for stage productions.  Today, it is truly a Grand Movie Palace.

The Great Depression caused it to fall out of favor and change some of its core business to road shows, revues and movies.  In 1941, it had the notoriety of being the only theater to show Orson Wells’ “Citizen Kane.”  The bulding was purchased the next year and renamed the Hollywood Paramount Theater.

Then Disney stepped in and acquired this historic theater and restored it to its original glory.  They have enhanced it with better sound and projection systems and a Wurlitzer Theater Organ that is used to add to your pre-movie experience.

Today they show their current releases and special presentations of Disney Classic movies on their “Throw Back Thursdays.”  True to the Disney brand, when you come to the El Capitan, you are in for a special treat.  They make your movie viewing an experience with special entertainment and exhibits.

The El Capitan Theater is located in the heart of Hollywood at 6838 Hollywood Boulevard, across from the

TCL Chinese Theater and between Jimmy Kimmel Live and the Ghirardelli Soda Fountain.  While you are looking at all the stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, see if you can find some of your favorite stars!

(Be prepared when visiting as I am sure you have heard Hollywood affectionately called “Hollyweird.”  There are some very unusual sights along the boulevard.  Bring your camera!).
